Convert 35mm Negatives to DigitalConvert Negatives to Digital Before They Fade Away

Film negatives are extremely precious because in many cases they can produce a higher quality scan than a printed photo. While all types of analog media are at risk from scratches and deterioration, negatives are more delicate because the film is so thin and fragile. As a result, this puts negatives at a higher risk for irreparable damage.

No matter how you store your negatives, deterioration is inevitable. To prevent further decay & irreparable damage, convert your negatives to digital format before it’s too late.

Our Negatives Digitization Process

We understand the important roll that negatives play in producing a high quality photos. Converting negatives to digital requires a trained eye and skilled hand in order to scan large quantities quickly and effectively. You can rest assured that our expertly trained technicians will handle your negatives with great care. We use high end Nikon film scanners to digitize 35mm negatives. For other negative formats we use high quality, commercial grade flatbed scanners.

Our Nikon scanners and flatbed scanners use Digital ICE technology to ensure the best quality image of your scanned negatives. Digital ICE (Image Correction and Enhancement) uses infra-red light to detect dust particles and minor scratches prior to scanning and then during scanning, corrects the image based on the defects detected by the infra-red light. Digital ICE also restores and corrects color, reduces film grain noise, and optimizes contrast & exposure of the scanned negatives.

After we convert negatives to digital, our quality control team meticulously crop, de-skew and properly orientate each image to fine tune them before delivery. Once your film negatives and transparencies meet our quality standards, they are put onto CD, DVD, flash drive or hard drive to be shared at your leisure. Click here for negative scanning prices.

Scanning 35mm Old NegativesNegative Scanning Resolution

An advantage to using our negative scanning services is the resolution options we offer. Resolution is one of the biggest factors that determine the quality of scanned digital images.

Resolution is measured in Dots Per Inch (DPI) and refers to the amount of information or detail a digital file holds. The higher the resolution, the sharper the image and higher the quality will be. 35mm, 110, & 126 format negatives are at a minimum of 2000 DPI and up to 4000 DPI. Medium and large format negatives are scanned at a minimum of 1200 DPI and up to 3600 DPI.

2000/1200 DPI– Negatives scanned at this resolution are perfect for viewing on your computer, device or TV and sharing online or emailing. At this standard resolution you can create printed photographs up to 5″ x 7.” In order to print larger sizes and have a sharper image we recommend scanning at a higher resolution.

3000/2400 DPI– Negatives scanned at this resolution result in sharper images that capture more detail. At this resolution you will have the ability to print your images up to 11″ x 14″ at the same original quality.

4000/3600 DPI– This is the highest resolution available for transparent film and yields the highest possible quality and captures the most detail possible. Negatives scanned at this high resolution will allow you to create prints of at least 11″ x 17″ in size and use professionally in any capacity you can think of.
